About Kathleen
Kathleen Horstmeyer spent the first phase of her career as Technical Director of Cardiovascular Diagnostics at a large regional medical center, where she trained vascular surgeons and cardiologists in diagnostic vascular studies and served as a physician extender.
She later became a Board Certified Traditional Naturopath (BCND) and completed advanced training in Applied Quantum Biology.
Her extensive clinical background and systems-level insight inform her current role as Director of Certification and Continuing Education at the Institute of Applied Quantum Biology.
Kathleen Horstmeyer began her healthcare career as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, working in high-acuity clinical environments before earning a Bachelor of Science in Blood Flow Physics and Diagnostic Medicine. This early training laid the foundation for a long-standing leadership role in non-invasive vascular diagnostics.
She was personally invited to join the Research and Development team of the late Eugene Strandness, MD, widely regarded as the “godfather” of diagnostic blood flow and former Chief of Vascular Surgery and Research at the University of Washington. This invitation marked the beginning of Kathleen’s leadership in diagnostic medicine.
Kathleen was later invited to train at the Scripps Research Clinic in La Jolla, California, under the guidance of the late Eugene Bernstein, MD, another internationally recognized leader in vascular diagnostics. These formative research and clinical experiences shaped her systems-level understanding of blood flow, physiology, and diagnostic rigor.
For 25 years, Kathleen served as Director of Diagnostics and Accreditation for a large hospital-based regional medical center comprising more than 35 cardiologists and vascular surgeons. In this role, she interpreted non-invasive vascular studies as a physician extender, trained physicians and technologists from around the world, oversaw accreditation and diagnostic standards, and helped establish and maintain excellence in clinical vascular practice.
Holistic Health and Natural Medicine
In parallel with her diagnostic career, Kathleen developed a deep interest in holistic and natural approaches to health. This phase of her work expanded her focus from diagnostics alone to the environmental and regulatory inputs that shape long-term health.
She completed a three-year program in Traditional Naturopathy, earning Board Certification in 2015 through the American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board and the designation Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor (BCND).
Together with her husband, Dr. Rick Horstmeyer (DDS, MD, ND), Kathleen co-founded a home-based Natural Health Retreat Center focused on education, lifestyle foundations, and the thoughtful integration of emerging wellness technologies. They operated the retreat center until relocating in 2021 to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and run a Light Based Technology Business, called LifeWave.
Kathleen currently serves as Director of Certification and Continuing Education at the Institute of Applied Quantum Biology, where she supports practitioner education, certification standards, and the responsible translation of quantum biology into applied health contexts.
Interests and Personal Grounding
Kathleen’s professional work is deeply informed by how she lives.
For over 23 years, she operated a Lipizzaner Horse Rescue at their Horstmeyer Farm, caring for horses and other animals with a strong commitment to welfare and stewardship. Raised on a cattle ranch in Montana, Kathleen is trained in dressage, ranch work, trail riding, and natural horsemanship practices that emphasize harmony between humans and horses.
She holds a lifelong appreciation for natural bodies of water—rivers, lakes, and oceans—and views moving water as a symbol of vitality. She is a strong advocate for environmental preservation and for understanding the roles of light, water, and magnetism in sustaining life.
Kathleen values meaningful connection and community. She is the mother of two sons and a grandmother to four grandchildren, with a passion for guiding others through education, spiritual awareness, and mindset shifts that support meaningful life change.
Today, Kathleen lives in northern Idaho, where she spends time biking, riding horses, swimming, and walking in nature with deep gratitude for the natural world.
